Care & Maintenance
Last updated: [Jan, 2026]
Our furniture is crafted from solid wood and designed to live with you for many years.
With a little simple care, your pieces can age beautifully and develop a natural patina over time.
1. General Care for Solid Wood Furniture
Solid wood is a natural material. Small variations in grain, color, and texture are part of its character.
To keep your furniture in good condition:
- Place pieces on a level, stable surface.
- Use coasters, placemats, and felt pads to protect surfaces from heat, moisture, and abrasion.
- Avoid dragging furniture; lift and move with care to protect legs and joints.
- Keep sharp or rough objects off the surface unless there is a protective layer.
2. Daily Cleaning
For regular cleaning:
- Dust surfaces with a soft, dry cloth.
- For light cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth and gently wipe the surface, then dry immediately with a clean, dry cloth.
- Avoid soaking the surface or leaving a wet cloth on the wood.
Please do not use:
- Harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners
- Ammonia-based products
- Silicone or wax polishes that may build up on the surface
If you are unsure about a cleaning product, test it first on a small, inconspicuous area or contact us for advice.
3. Spills & Stains
- Wipe up spills immediately with a dry, absorbent cloth.
- Do not allow liquids (especially water, alcohol, or acidic drinks like wine and juice) to sit on the surface.
- For sticky spots, use a slightly damp cloth and dry the area thoroughly afterwards.
Some marks and rings may be difficult to remove at home and may require professional refinishing.
If you are concerned about a specific stain, please contact us with photos for guidance.
4. Temperature & Humidity
Solid wood responds to changes in its environment by expanding and contracting.
This movement is normal and cannot be completely avoided, but it can be managed.
To protect your furniture:
- Keep your home at a stable, indoor temperature and humidity level where possible.
- Ideally, maintain relative humidity around 40–60%.
- Avoid placing furniture directly next to heaters, radiators, fireplaces, air conditioning vents, or very dry air sources.
- Do not store or use solid wood furniture in damp basements, outdoor areas, or spaces exposed to extreme humidity.
Minor movement, hairline gaps, or small checks in the wood can be a natural part of solid wood ageing and are not necessarily defects.
5. Sunlight & Color Changes
Wood and finishes will naturally change color over time, especially with exposure to light.
To help your piece age evenly:
- Avoid prolonged, direct sunlight where possible.
- Use curtains, blinds, or UV-filtering film in very bright spaces.
- Occasionally move objects (vases, books, decor) on the surface so the color can develop more evenly.
Some color change over time is normal and part of the natural character of solid wood.
6. Scratches, Dents & Everyday Marks
Daily life will leave small marks on solid wood surfaces.
To minimize damage:
- Use felt pads under accessories, lamps, and decor.
- Avoid placing very sharp or rough objects directly on the surface.
- Use trays or coasters for items that are moved frequently.
Light surface marks are often part of the patina that develops with use.
For deeper scratches, dents, or damage, please contact us before attempting repairs yourself—we may be able to recommend suitable options or local professionals.
7. Hardware, Drawers & Doors
If your piece includes drawers, doors, or hardware:
- Periodically check visible screws and fittings and gently tighten if needed.
- Keep drawer runners and hinges free from dust and debris.
- If you notice unusual noise, resistance, or movement, stop forcing it and contact us for advice.
